Volibear Scaling: Grade C
No, not reliably. Volibear falls off in coordinated late-game fights. Grade C, Bad late, in The Scaling Codex.
Reviewed for League of Legends Season 16 (2026).
Verdict. Bad. Can be kited and outranged.
Why Volibear falls off
Everything he does needs contact, and the late game makes contact much harder to get. His sprint gets slowed, his claws need a target inside arm's reach, and his ultimate drop covers less ground than a single dash from the carry it was aimed at.
Outranged means the damage starts before he arrives. Kited means it continues while he arrives. By the time contact happens, the fight has already collected.
The map can delete the kiting room he cannot
Jungle corridors, pit fights, and wall-adjacent chokes turn walking backwards into walking into terrain, and a Volibear who lands on a cornered target is briefly the champion the early game promised.
You do not win the open field. Fight in the corridor, where walking backwards means walking into a wall.

How this grade was judged
The grade weighs range, target access, sustained and burst damage, crowd control, mobility, durability, healing and shielding, resets, cooldown structure, objective and formation control, split pressure, and how well the champion survives a long fight. Builds and forms that scale differently are graded separately. This is Vambient's gameplay evaluation of coordinated late-game fights, not a win-rate calculation. Full methodology.

The grade measures one thing: how much a champion can influence a coordinated late-game objective fight once both teams reach full builds. It does not measure early strength, snowballing, or win rate. A weak late-game champion still wins by ending the game first, which is what the rest of the library teaches. How the grades are decided.
