Riven Scaling: Grade A

AGreat lateat full build, coordinated fights

Yes. Riven scales well into the late game. Grade A, Great late, in The Scaling Codex.

Reviewed for League of Legends Season 16 (2026).

Verdict. One of the top bruisers right now. Great scaling on all abilities.

Why Riven gets an A

She has no resource bar, and late that absence becomes a weapon. Mana champions ration their fights. Her only limit is cooldowns, and full-build ability haste turns the kit into a near-continuous rotation. Every ability scaling well means the whole loop grows at once: bigger shield, more stun value, harder damage strings.

Blade of the Exile is the multiplier. It raises her damage for the fight and ends with a ranged execute, so the melee champion finishes targets she no longer has to touch.

The kit rewards clean casts and punishes clumsy ones

The shield only matters when timed against real damage, the mobility is spent in small pieces that can be wasted, and a bad string leaves a melee champion standing in full-build crossfire.

The rule

Time the shield against a spell with a name, and save Wind Slash for the health bar it finishes.

How this grade was judged

The grade weighs range, target access, sustained and burst damage, crowd control, mobility, durability, healing and shielding, resets, cooldown structure, objective and formation control, split pressure, and how well the champion survives a long fight. Builds and forms that scale differently are graded separately. This is Vambient's gameplay evaluation of coordinated late-game fights, not a win-rate calculation. Full methodology.

Related champions

The grade measures one thing: how much a champion can influence a coordinated late-game objective fight once both teams reach full builds. It does not measure early strength, snowballing, or win rate. A weak late-game champion still wins by ending the game first, which is what the rest of the library teaches.
