Sona Scaling: Grade S

SBest lateat full build, coordinated fights

Yes. Sona is one of the strongest late-game champions in the game. Grade S, Best late, in The Scaling Codex.

Reviewed for League of Legends Season 16 (2026).

Verdict. Possibly better scaling than Janna. Very good AoE ultimate stun as well as AoE healing, AoE speed boosts, and AoE damage amplification.

Why Sona gets an S

Everything she casts affects the whole team. The healing aura repairs five health bars, the speed aura moves five players, and the damage aura sharpens the next hit for all of them. Each is small on its own, but with short cooldowns and long fights it accumulates across the team.

Crescendo is the payoff. A line stun across several champions forces the enemy either to fight spread out or to risk losing the fight outright, and spreading makes them easier to kill one at a time.

Sona has to survive at aura range

She is among the softest champions in the game, and the auras only work near the team, which means near the danger. Playing at the edge of her aura range rather than the edge of her comfort is most of the skill.

Crescendo also needs holding. Opened with, it hits a team that still has every cooldown available.

The rule

Play at the edge of your aura range, and save Crescendo for the moment they commit.

How this grade was judged

The grade weighs range, target access, sustained and burst damage, crowd control, mobility, durability, healing and shielding, resets, cooldown structure, objective and formation control, split pressure, and how well the champion survives a long fight. Builds and forms that scale differently are graded separately. This is Vambient's gameplay evaluation of coordinated late-game fights, not a win-rate calculation. Full methodology.

Related champions

The grade measures one thing: how much a champion can influence a coordinated late-game objective fight once both teams reach full builds. It does not measure early strength, snowballing, or win rate. A weak late-game champion still wins by ending the game first, which is what the rest of the library teaches.
