Varus Scaling: Grade B
Reasonably well, with conditions. Varus keeps real value at full build. Grade B, Okay late, in The Scaling Codex. The placement moves with the patch.
Reviewed for League of Legends Season 16 (2026).
Verdict. Middle of the pack. The top variant of Varus is more viable than the bot lane variant but depends on patch for late game teamfights.
- Patch-dependent
He brings a fight-starter cast from safety
The chained root turns a facecheck or a mispositioned carry into a team kill without spending his own position, and the long-range Q makes him a genuine siege threat before anyone commits.
The identity is the soft part
Which Varus arrives at forty minutes depends on which build the patch favors, and the most viable current form lives top rather than bot. A champion whose late-game role gets re-decided every few patches cannot be placed above the middle.
Against the premier scalers his sustained output loses the long race, so a Varus who never starts a pick is just the smaller bow in the fight.
Open with the chain, not with your feet.

How this grade was judged
The grade weighs range, target access, sustained and burst damage, crowd control, mobility, durability, healing and shielding, resets, cooldown structure, objective and formation control, split pressure, and how well the champion survives a long fight. Builds and forms that scale differently are graded separately. This is Vambient's gameplay evaluation of coordinated late-game fights, not a win-rate calculation. Full methodology.

The grade measures one thing: how much a champion can influence a coordinated late-game objective fight once both teams reach full builds. It does not measure early strength, snowballing, or win rate. A weak late-game champion still wins by ending the game first, which is what the rest of the library teaches. How the grades are decided.
